History of Le SelectLocated in the 6th Arrondissement of Paris, Le Select Montparnasse is a well known brasserie, famed for its place in the lore of 1920s Paris.
Many of the great modernists spent time in Le Select, most famously, Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso. Hemingway even included the café in his famous novel, The Sun Also Rises. Since it opened its doors in 1925, Le Select has remained largely the same, giving patrons the same environment that kept Picasso and Hemingway coming back again and again. However, one of the few things that has changed is the price. While the cost to dine at Le Select has gone up, the brasserie still remains a casual spot to soak in the authentic Parisian experience. |
Other famous writers and artists also spent time in Le Select, including writer James Baldwin, photographer Man Ray, and playwright Samuel Beckett. The brasserie has welcomed so many famous artists, in fact, that it inspired a book, Paris Café: The Select Crowd, dedicated to the subject.
But the famous patrons are not limited to those of yesteryear. Some of the biggest stars of today have visited the establishment, including comedian Bill Murray and actress Scarlet Johansson. |
Menu
Le Select boasts a wide and varied menu.
It includes an expansive list of beverages, convenient if you care to drink with the voracity of one of Hemingway's characters.
The á la carte menu offers everything from sandwiches, burgers, steak, and fish, as well as their famous roasted chicken.
Bill Murray recommends the croque monsieur.
